Due to persistent nagging from some people and one final request, I decided to take the plunge and join yet another social networking site. Facebook is an interesting twist on the whole genre and has some nice security and privacy features plus its own annoyances. Join up and connect with people you know.

Del.icio.us is a website for tagging other websites for easy searching and sharing. It works effectively like an online favorites or bookmarks listing, private or public. If you decide to make your list of tagged sites public (you can do this on a per-site basis), others can see your favorite sites and your comments on them which can be a great way to share some of the best sites you know of with friends and family. Sign up for free with the link below, and feel free to browse my tagged sites if you're interested.
If you're looking up information about anything at all, take a look at Wikipedia. Its a free collaborative encyclopedia that aims for concensus and accuracy of information as well as a neutral point of view. If you're knowledgeable about a topic (say, computers or swimming or history), take a look at the articles on related subjects and see if you can contribute anything valuable or even just proof-read whats already there.
Interested in the latest sports gossip, what's going on in the Middle East, or the latest trends in technology? Make Google News your homepage. There are country-specific versions (I use Google News Canada) and you'll see a summary of everything Google's massive search engines have access to around the world in terms of news every 15 minutes or so.

If you like doing photography, take a look at Flickr. Its a great (free) photo storage service and supports live tag/description/title editing with a nice Flash-based organizer as well. You can upload unlimited photos (there's a monthly limit but you can avoid that for about $2/mo) and mark them as public or private to friends/family. One of my favorite features is their photo groups; photos in your 'pool' of photos can be added to groups of similar photos making global albums for people to browse. This has lots of neat featurs like being able to make an event-specific album that everyone with digital photos from the event can submit to. Take a look. PS, Google has great free photo editing software that's really easy to use for red-eye removal, etc.
Its not nearly as popular as some of the other sites like myspace or hi5 these days, but Friendster is still a great standby as a simple way to keep track of old friends (or find them again). Easy on the eyes and quick to check on, Friendster will E-mail you those important dates like birthdays and anniversaries and lets you easily share updates on your life with your friends.
